Walmart to open its 2nd ‘high tech’ site
— Arkansas DemocratGazette
Walmart will open a second “high-tech” consolidation center in the coming weeks, this one in southeast Pennsylvania, the retailer said Wednesday.
The 400,000 squarefoot facility will open this month in Lebanon, Pa., adding some 1,000 jobs to the area that will serve its 42 distribution centers across the U.S., according to the Bentonville-based company.
Its first automated consolidation center opened in 2019 at Colton, Calif. The facilities consolidate smaller quantities of general merchandise, such as toys or kitchen appliances, from suppliers into full truckloads that then ship to regional distribution centers, according to Walmart.
The supply chain additions allow suppliers to ship products to a central location, rather than making separate shipments to individual distribution centers.
Walmart announced plans earlier this year to renovate all of its regional distribution centers with automated technology.
