ELIZABETH CATHERINE SCESNIAK,

of North Little Rock, Ark., went to be with the Lord March 20, 2023. She was a beloved wife, mother, friend, and creative artist. She never met a stranger.

Elizabeth was born in Chicago, Illinois on December 16, 1932, and lived an incredible 90 years of life. Just shy of 21 years of age, she married the love of her life, Eugene, who passed away this past December. What a memorable fairy tale romance that they grew up across the street from each other. Mom would bring a date home only to find Eugene eating chocolate cake in her mother’s kitchen.

Over the course of 69 years of marriage, Elizabeth set up homes from coast to coast: New Hampshire to California, everywhere in between and even the Philippines, as Dad was in the Air Force.

Elizabeth had so many unbelievable talents! Most famously, she was known as “The Gourd Lady” transforming gourds into treasured collections, mostly Santas. Featured in QVC in 1999, she proudly sold 700 Easter Bunny gourds in less than two minutes on national TV.

Elizabeth was a loving, generous woman to family, being her husband, daughters, sonsin-law, grandchildren, relatives, loyal and loving caregiver Jayla Jones, neighbors, and friends. She always took meals to any one in need, was very involved at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, and spent hours volunteering at many other organizations. The other love of her life was Carmel, her therapy dog, that had tricks galore and brought smiles to many!

Elizabeth was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Adele Trojan; her older brother, Robert Trojan; and her husband, Eugene Scesniak. She is survived by a sister in-law, Louise Pierce; her daughters, Dr. Debra Seznik-Thomas and husband, Ted; Diane Walla and husband, Greg; grandchildren, Joe Thomas and wife, Taylor (expecting their first child this coming May); Jake Thomas, Lane Walla, and Waverly Walla.

Heaven welcomes you, Elizabeth. What a life, what a wonderful wife, mother, and friend, now to be reunited with Eugene, your beloved husband!

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, March 29, at 10:30 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Fr. John Wakube will be the Celebrant. Committal service will follow at Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery, with a lunch reception afterwards at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church Hall.

Arrangements are under the direction of Roller-Owens Funeral Home in North Little Rock.
