Woman gets probation, fine for striking care facility resident

A North Little Rock woman who pleaded guilty in Pulaski County Circuit Court to striking an elderly woman with dementia at a Little Rock care facility was sentenced this week to five years probation and fined, a Wednesday release from state Attorney General Tim Griffin states.

Ja’Layia McClendon, 28, was convicted of abuse of an endangered or impaired adult, a felony, after she, while working at Woodland Heights Senior Living, struck an 82-year-old resident suffering from dementia and Alzheimer’s disease, leaving bruises on her face and forearm, the release states.

McClendon surrendered to police on Oct. 31, the release states. She was fined $1,000 on top of the five-year probation term.

In the release, Griffin thanked his office’s Medicare Fraud Control Unit for their work in the case.

“Protecting seniors from abuse will continue to be a priority for my office,” Griffin said in the statement.
