18-year-old suspect arrested in fatal shooting at LR’s Park Plaza

GRANT LANCASTER

An 18-year-old was arrested Wednesday in the fatal shooting Monday evening of a woman in the parking lot of the Park Plaza mall in Little Rock.

Abdelrahmanhmed Sallam faces a capital murder charge in the killing of Cynthia “Cyndi” Gregory, 47, of Little Rock, police said in a post on social media platform X Wednesday evening.

Sallam was being held in the Pulaski County jail, according to an online inmate roster, which also indicated he faced a charge of refusal to submit to arrest.

Police responding to a report of a subject down at 6:11 p.m. Monday found Gregory, the senior major gifts officer for the Baptist Health Foundation, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.

She was taken to a hospital, where she died a short time later, police said.

Gregory’s LinkedIn page says she had worked for the foundation since August 2017.

“She was a beautiful woman who was caring, funny, smart, hard-working, and a Christian wife and mom,” Janet Marshall, the foundation’s chief development officer, said in a statement Wednesday.

“Cyndi wanted nothing but the best for her family and she will be greatly missed.”

By Wednesday evening, a GoFundMe drive posted by Jordan

Gregory had raised $30,810 from 446 donors against a fundraising goal of $8,000.

Jordan is the oldest of Cynthia’s three daughters, she wrote in the fundraiser’s description. Cynthia also left behind a husband, the description states.

“My mom loved everyone and is a well-loved person in

her community,” Jordan wrote in the description.

By Wednesday evening, police had yet to give any details that might indicate a motive for the killing.

It was the first of three homicides that happened within 48 hours of each other in Little Rock, although the killings took place miles apart. The other two homicides were the shooting deaths of a 15-year-old boy found inside a vehicle and a man whom police hadn’t yet identified Wednesday night at an apartment complex.

On Wednesday evening, Gregory’s photograph remained with those of her co-workers on the Baptist Health Foundation website.
