■ Robert Fehring, 74, a retired high school teacher from Bayport, N.Y., accused of sending dozens of hatefilled letters to advocacy groups representing lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people, was charged with making violent threats via the U.S. mail, federal prosecutors said.

■ Karl Nehammer, the chancellor of Austria, said the country is ending its month-old nationwide lockdown for people who’ve been inoculated against covid-19 or have recovered from the virus while continuing to limit participation in public life for those who refuse to be vaccinated.

■ Warren Nelson, police chief in Bolton, Mass., said 73-year-old Kim Taylor died after she was repeatedly butted by a sheep while working alone in a livestock pen as she volunteered at a farm that uses animals in behavioral mental health therapy.

■ Nicole Pacheco, a California Highway Patrol sergeant, said a 36-yearold man is facing multiple felony charges after a 20-year-old Marine who had stopped to help two people involved in a crash near Camp Pendleton was killed when he was struck by a passing truck.

■ Jennifer Collins, dean of the Dedman School of Law at Southern Methodist University in Dallas since 2014, has been named the 21st president of Rhodes College in Memphis and will assume her new position in July.

■ William Atwell, who teaches American Sign Language at Liberty University in Lynchburg, Va., was suspended from his job as an associate professor when he was accused of assaulting a student and charged with sexual battery and abduction, authorities said.

■ Pal Volner, Hungary’s deputy minister of justice, denied any wrongdoing but said he will resign and cooperate with investigators after being accused of accepting more than $15,000 in bribes in return for agreeing to handle specific corruption cases.

■ Bill Lowe, a Missouri State Highway Patrol sergeant, said a deputy fatally shot a man accused of shooting at a house in Blue Springs after he rammed his vehicle into a SWAT armored truck and pointed a rifle toward officers when they arrived on the scene.

■ Fuad Hussein, Iraq’s foreign minister, said nearly 18,000 artifacts, including a small clay tablet dating back 3,500 years and bearing a portion of the Epic of Gilgamesh looted from an Iraqi museum 30 years ago and put on display at a Washington, D.C., museum, have been returned to Iraq.
